WalMart: “RIP, Dear Customer.”

I’ve always disliked the high cost of a funeral – the funeral activities, casket, flowers, burial, etc. I’ve always thought, as did my parents, that after you are dead is not a good time to waste money on crap you don’t need (and can’t appreciate). When my big day comes, just cremate me and toss my ashes to the wind. But if you want to have your ashes stored or if you prefer to be buried, heroic WalMart is now in the  business of selling discounted caskets and urns. Always Low Prices.

Wal-Mart quietly put up about 15 caskets and dozens of urns on its Web site last week.
Prices range from $999 for models like “Dad Remembered” and “Mom Remembered” steel caskets to the mid-level $1,699 “Executive Privilege.” All are less than $2,000, except for the Sienna Bronze Casket, which sells for $3,199.
Caskets ship within 48 hours. Federal law requires funeral homes to accept third-party caskets. Returns are not accepted, the company says on its site, unless the product has been damaged during shipping.

Saved by Harry .....

So,,, I have been digging around  this InterWeb,,, (thanks to Al Gore) looking for Information, data, Music, Lyrics, Friends, Schoolmates, Videos, etc etc,,,, The application of YouTube has a vast library of Videos on all Subjects , Clips of Homemade stuff,,, amature Video maker, perhaps the next Francis ford Copola,,?? Music artists that I have been enbedding here for a year now,,,

This afternoon a revalation,,,, Videos that I did not know existed,,,, I have chronicled the Many times that I,, and we saw Harry Chapin,,,  and if you look back to November of 2008 blog,,, that tells the tale of the Civic Center Concert where Harry had no voice,,,so, the Audience sang the songs,,,,   anyway.... today, I found Songs, Live Video from a  concert in Germany,,,, Chapin Lives !!!   If Music can save you,,, this set ,this group of Songs, this artist .. these songs,, and video saved me ,, at least for today...

• Great game -- Pettitte is a Bull-dog, & A-rod is now  getting Bonds treatment,,That is amazing
• HGHM - very hard run, 2:11 finish , I was very pleased,,, I also found out quickly why that lady ,,dressed as a chicken, with short shorts,, wanted me to help her with tying her chip onto her sneaker .. don't ask !
  
• Hamstring, left one,  began to cramp at 11 mile mark, I am hoping due to rough terrain and steep downhills
• Things are no better now than weeks ago.
  
• A friend reminded me of an important date , that I now shall never forget,, don't ask , I ain't tellin ya..

• I have more audits, Customers, Corporate Safety, UGH.
• Trying to get my Schedule under control..
• Are the Phillies better hitter than the Angels?

The ALCS is moving back to a Game 6 on Saturday night in the Bronx,,, this is a critical game for NY ,, not to win the Pennant ,,, but to do that & set up the pitching for the Series,,, and IF you think this series is over,,, think again,,, I said Yanks in 6 and that is still possible,,, so We will wait and let the Pitching of one Andrew Eugene Pettitte do the Talking................

I have a whole 10 minutes to get in todays entry.,.. and after 3 15+ hour days,,, I am slippin out early today,,, gotta get some "around the house work" completed befroe what looks like a weekend of Rain,,, and any way  - I am busy with other things,,, ghost busters was on last night,,, I just love that Movie,,, don't know why I watch it as I know every line.,....

Phillies are in the Series,,, hopefully the Yankess can finish off LA tonight, and set up their rotation for the Phillies,,, and Game one,,, this will be no easy task ,, they have some hitters in that dugout !!  good news is the  Philles Park yields almost as mnay homeruns as "THE Stadium"  does,....

I caught a few from Joan,,, Not the best version of Willow,,, and I will leave you to Sing along.,...  a few of the shows we have been at,,,, You cna see tears in Joan's eyes at the end of the Audience Singing ....  God I love this woman!

Well should they pitch Sabathia on 3 days rest ALL the time,,, he was better then great ,.,,, 8 inning,,, 1 run , like 5 hits, 5 K's, 1 BB,,,,, amazing,,, especially cause this was not against the Royals,,, the Angels have a good line up.,,,,,  and better still the 8 inning kept Mr Girardi firmly planted on the bench,, so he could not possibly over manage the bull pen AGAIN !! This is just workin out for them right now,,, With the day off today,,, and Game 5 Thursday,,, he will have that entire Pen rested - big time,... and then the day off again IF they have to return to NY,,, but I am thinkin  that probably won't be necessary,,,,

ok,, let's go back to the game before ,,,, Totally over managed,,, my god , can we let a pitcher go a few,, and quit switchin every other batter,,,, Only good move he made was gettin Mo outta there before he had to BAT ! I was walking around the room yellin at the TV !,,, and who except for me saw that pith out coming,,, EVERYONE !!!  especially after Oliver threw Strike One to Jorge,,, Gardiner was meat ,,,


And I think the Yankees would have bought Alex a Teixeira long ago if they knew it would have this affect on him,... you are now seeing the HOF player that we always knew he was,,, 

and even in the loss,,, what a defensive show by Mark Teixeira,,,,, Scoops at 1st,,, up in the air and taggin the runner as he goes by,,, Line shots at him,,, hot shot grounder,,, tags 1st , and holds the runner at 3rd base,,, and the best of all Covering 2nd base on the ball hit to the Outfield,,, now I do not know which guy,, Cano, or jeter "should" have covered 2nd,, but Ican tell ya,, there ain't many 1st basement that would have been there in time to make that play on Abreau,,,

WTF is with the Umpires ,, are they all smoking weed before the Game !! Missed call after missed call.,,,, Even some good umps,,, out at 2nd,, called safe,,, left early from 3rd to score,,,Clearly NOT,, Fair balls called Foul,, a double play that was not,,, come on ,,,, get it right,,,

Billy Goat'n at Baird Park ... .

Perfect weather for the Billy Goat 5k,,,, RAIN , and 40 degrees !! So,, you are cold waiting for the start , but Fat guys like me get warmed up before we get to the top of the 1st big hill at the 1/2 mile mark,,,,



near 100 runners,, not a big a turnout as usual,,, clearly the weather played into that.,... The usual good race preparation by Wayne and his race volunteers,,, course well laid out,, leaves blown off the trail,,, and course well marked,, Nice Long sleeve shirts again,,, and hot cider, and bagels at the end,,, nice touch with the Hot Cider,,,

I finished as I expected 9 minute miles,,, in 27:58 overall,,, 53rd of 98 runners,,,hope this carrys over  to  the Hairy Gorilla Half Marathon next weekend,,,,that course is much harder,,, 13.1 miles,,, more hills, and they throw in streams, and huge puddles to run through,,, and I will post that race report NEXT Monday,,,

Ok,, so - AFTER the Haunted Trail -  I was way too sick to stay up and watch this game !!  Thank You NyQuil,,,

However , reading about it today,,,, yowza !!   13 innings,,,, a combined 28 men left on base,,, 13 Pitchers used,,,, runs scored on errors, and WILD Pitches,,, and ,,, OMG,,,,  what was it 5 hours, and 10 minutes,,,, BUT the Yanks Prevailed,, thanks AGAIN to A-Rod ! He had not hit a homer off an 0-2 count all year,,, well, this ain't all year!  Then they give the Halos the Walk off in the 13th,,,, so UP 2games to none headed out to LosAngelsles !

A bit disturbing is the Bullpen use,,,, Mariano throws 2 and 1/3innings,,, and Joba just a 1/3 .,.,,,  Guess we will wait and see how it all plays out ,,,,,  I still say NY in 6 games....

So - for those of us that have been listening to Orleans for - what now 30 + years !!! OMG,,,  I Pulled together a playlist from YouTube of a few Songs from an OPUS 40 performance,,,, they used to play there every September,,,,   and the last one - the Beatles song - For those REAL old fans,,, you guys rememeber that Orleans ALWAYS closed the Encore with Beatles covers,,,, most times with John Hall on the drums, and Wells Kelly playing Lead guitar....

My how things have changed,,,,, John is the Congressman from NY's 19th district  http://johnhall.house.gov/, and the Band has since moved on with out him (not the same though) ,,, Wells died back in '84 .....

A great day ! Frig the rain,,,, unfortunately the Haunted Trail probably gets washed out,,,,, but I have LEW BLACK tickets for Tonight at UPAC.... We have seen Lew in many setting from a little Jewish Community Center in Westchester,,, like 200 seats,,, to Carnegie Hall in New York !! I have posted the WATER rant, and Candy Corn vid,,, you can go to YouTube and look him up,.... there is alot of his material out there......

o, I think that I enjoy television shows that have musiuc attached to them,,,,  I think of Northern Exposure,,, that was more than JUST A TV SHOW,,,, it was outstanding art,,, the Characters, the settings, story lines,,, NOT all beautiful people,,, and behind all that Music,,,, - plus the "Chris in the Morning" on KBHR was a fixture of the show,,, and many a closing was Chris (John Corbett) with a dialog, and a song,,, ALLY McBEAL - another show with excellent Cast, and  they embedded Music right into the show with Vonda Shepard,,, to say nothing of a several episodes when Elaine (Jane Krakowski) and Ally (Calista Flockhart) sang as part of the show,, 

HOUSE is todays example of this,,, where Hugh Laurie plays guitar, or Piano,  and even a episode with Dave Matthews, as a patient with special musical skills,,,,  and episodes ending with a few of my favs,,,, NOT as WE,,, Alanis Morrisette,  and See the WORLD - Guster,,,

So Three of the Four series end in a Sweep...

Yanks take care of the hapless Twins,,,, exactly what they should have done,,, this was a team that hey Yanks beat every game this season,,, and they fought hard to get to the playoffs,,,, plus tht come back in Game 2 against Nathan,,, that put the dagger in the heart of Minnesota,,,,  the Angels sweeping the Redsox was far more impressive,,,, the Sox have a way better team than showed up for the Series,,,, although either team - and in the case the Angels will provide a much better opponent for NY in the ALCS,,,,,   A box of tissues to PAPS,,,, blew that lead and the Game in the ninth,,,  - SO,,, all these teams with Mariano wanna-bees,,, Nathan,,, Papplebon,,, blow leads in the late innings,,, crushing their teams,, whilst that number 42 in the Bronx goes merrily on... Saving Games, and closing out Series ....  IF you are a doubter that this guy is not the best of ALL TIME - you are just blinded by your own team or guy,, and not using good sense,,,

Second Season starts Wednesday,,,, Ok,, so the Yanks do not know who it will be against,,, but I bet they have had scout at every Tigers, and Twins game for the past month,, and are just waiting  to see who shows up on Wednesday night,,,,  this has worked out for the Yankees,,,,  that they got to a playin game,,,, and We can only hope Tuesday nights game goes on for ,,, I dunno,,,say 50 innings!!

Putnam County Half marathon,,,, excuses up front,,, TOO fat,,, Too Old,,, kinda warmish, very friggin Hilly,,,, still finished in a 2:04....  and I have been letting those 4 minutes bug me all day,,, you know what , fug it ! 2:04 , is 9:27 min miles,,,, not that bad,,, all felt good 'cept down the huge short hill at mile 11,,,, that hurt,,,  I can give you the splits ,, but they are ugly,,, too fast at the start and too slow up the hills in the middle,,,

Reg Season over , almost,,,, congrats to the Yankees as the regular season Champions of Basball.,.. the Best record! 

Mr Rodriguez sets an AL record with 7 RBIs in one inning,,, nice,,, especially after the BUSH league play that the Rays pulled by walking Tex with 2 on and 2 out just so he does not have a chance to Pass Pena - who both end up with 39 Homers,,, Bush League Coach Maddon ! and walking Tex to get to A-rod,,, guess that did not work out for ya!  IDIOT !

Vacation to work and back

so,,, the Yearly vacation is over,,, ugh,,,, back to work I am.........

I can only hope that at the end of the day - so to speak - I get time to "retire". A week or two a year just does not seem like long enough to enjoy the world around,,, and there are simply so many places yet to see,,, this immediate discussion of "where are we going next year" starts before we even finish this years vacation,,,, Caribbean Cruises, Maine Coast - Acadia National park, New Hampshire White Mountains, Maine's interior,,, Vermont B&B time,,, a Week or 2 a year at WDW..... Outer Banks in NC.... ok , so where to next,,,, If I ever get to retire,,, will I have the Doe-REY-Me to go anywhere ?? or be stuck in Yaardsville USA. a STAY-cation per the new vocabulary....... and now with the kids grown,,,we can go at the off season to all these places, and that is even better !! Not that I don;t love the kids, and I especially enjoy them at Disney , now that they are older,,,, even thought they poo-pooh it,,, I know they love it there ..... you cna sorta tell by the smiles... so when I get into a discussion about th e cost of the Vacation Club,,, I pull out the pictures,, and wonder what monetary price toy are seeing on this ...............

There are so many places , and places to go see,,, I especially like wandering new towns, and running thru new places,,,, going to Breakfast at a local spot,, talking to the FOLKS there about what's happening,,, where to go and what to see,,,,, We have usually been treated well,, wiyth folks tellin us about local spots to see, and explore, and triggering a local flavor into the vacation,,, Maine has been best for this,,, Friendly folks,,, the Guy at the Trading post sorta store that sold everything, I mean everything from post cards to guns to shoes , clothes, hunting supplies, fishing supplies,,, all under the one roof,,,, Told us that if we needed any info on Local spots to come back and ask him,,, and don't bother with the Visitors center that he would be more than glad to point us in a direction, with good advice on Eats, and sights to see !!!

next year be??? I am hearing "OUT WEST" - Yosemite,,,, Glacier, Grand Ok,, so I can only hope to have the chance to revisit the good spots. and where WillTeton,.,,, I just finished watching Ken Burns "National Parks" America's BEST Idea,,, what a great series,, and how many places I have yet to see,,,, I just don't think that even my BIG Ole TV,,, can show them as they are seen in person,,, Pictures just can't grab it - you have to go see it !! YOU CAN"T STAY HERE !!
