Oh great...................... and Thurman Munson

Straight from the Elias Sports Breau

INDIANS MASSACRE YANKEES IN 7TH INNING
The Indians scored nine runs in the seventh inning. Only two previous visiting teams had scored nine or more runs in an inning in the first game at a new stadium: the Tigers did it at the opening of new Comiskey Park in 1991 and Philadelphia of the American Association did it at Brooklyn's Ridgewood Park in 1886.
Cleveland Indians

Grady Sizemore is the seventh player to hit a grand slam in the first game at a stadium, and he's the first to do so since Greg Vaughn had a slam for the Padres at Monterrey Stadium in 1996.

and on this date in History,,, Thurman Munson was named Yankee Captain ... the 1st Captain of the Bronx Bombers since Lou Gehrig,,,

At George Steinbrenner's insistence, Thurman Munson was named Yankee captain. The reluctant backstop was the first player to assume the role since Lou Gehrig was honored with the position in 1935. since Thurman ,,, Craig Nettles, Willie Randolph, Ron Guidry, Donald Arthur Mattingly, and The Current Captain Derek Jeter have held that esteemed position,,

and a shout out to Mr. Varitek ,,, NONE of the Yankee Captains had a "C" on their uniform.
