Black and White ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Greeting from New York on a late in February, Saturday morning ,,,

Roy Kelton Orbison (23 April, 1936 – 6 December, 1988) (for those in the Know,,, you can see why Roy and I are sorta attached,,, he being 20 yrs my senior)

Roy Orbison is the topic for today's post,, so I will tell you what I know about Roy , and add some stuff from Wikipedia,,,, he passed at an early age ,, just 52 years old,, died of a Massive heart attack as his star was once again rising in the Music world. His last CD was released posthumously,,, Mystery Girl - a Platinum recording on Virgin records,,, completed by his Friends - Jackson Browne, Jeff Lynne, and T-Bone Burnett to name a few,,, with the title of the Cd coming from the 6th track "She's a Mystery to Me" written & produced by Bono, and The Edge. The CD getting into the TOP 5 along with a CD by the Traveling Wilburys - Roy is Lefty Wilbury - has Roy being the ONLY artist along with Elvis to have TWO Records in the TOP 5 at the same time !

Roy was huge Music star in his day,, and probably one of the few Artists that can say that the Beatles opened for him,,,, Part way through the 1963 tour,, Roy agreed to change places on the ticket and let the Beatles Headline,,, however, even then,, John Lennon commented that the Audiences loved Orbison so much he was worried that the Beatles would not get to perform. After Beatlemania hit America in 1964 , Roy popularity here was far less, he was really more popular in Europe and Australia than here. He had no more hits in the US market until into the 1980's... In 1987 he did BLACK AND WHITE nights,,, which if you do not have on CD , or DVD , you need to get,,, It was Roy will all the folks that loved him and his music,,, from Springsteen, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, JD Souther, Steve Soles, Jennifer Warren, KD Lange, Bonnie Raitt,,, James Burtin , and Jeff Hardin. The attached videos are just the start of a terrific CD.

Roy later joined Jeff Lynne, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty , as the Traveling Wilbury's....

His lfe was marked with personal tragedy..... his 1st wife died in a motorcycle accident in 1966,,, 2 of his sons died in a fire two years later.

Song's like Pretty Woman, and CRYING have been recorded over and over by artists of today,, and thanks to his musician friends/fans, and Black and White nights,,, and the Traveling Wilburys,,, Roy has regained popularity. His Trade mark Glasses, and THAT voice ,,,,, So,, enjoy a couple from Roy Orbison,,, and go get B&W nights, and Mystery Girl,, you will not be disappointed .... Later,,,
