on this date in History.,.................

..... Not only for those who fought in the Vietnam war,, but for those of us that were getting ready to sign up for the Draft...January 27th was a great day,,,

From Wikipedia..........

The
Paris Peace Accords of 1973, intended to establish peace in Vietnam and an end to the Vietnam Conflict, ended direct U.S. military involvement and temporarily stopped the fighting between north and south. The governments of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam), the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam), and the United States, as well as the Provisional Revolutionary Government (PRG) that represented indigenous South Vietnamese revolutionaries signed the Agreement on Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam on January 27, 1973. The negotiations that led to the accord had begun in 1968 and had been subject to various lengthy delays. The main negotiators of the agreement were United States National Security Advisor Dr. Henry Kissinger and Vietnamese politburo member Le Duc Tho; the two men were awarded the 1973 Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts, although Tho refused to accept it. As a result of the accord, International Commission for Supervision and Control (ICSC) was replaced by International Commission of Control and Supervision (ICCS) to carry out the agreement.

I recall listening to the radio that night and ABC radio 770, out of NYC, played this song several times over and over , over,,,,,, and BTW ,, WAR - is good for absolutely nothing.

Was that you ???

Was that you?
was that you I caught a glimpse out of the corner of my eye .. a person that I used to know,,,and knew me, was that you was it a shadow of the past , or the future Is that how you look now,, or looked then, I could not see it then - but I see it now you look now like I remember you looked then sound now as I remember you spoke then I don't remember the face, or hear the voice. was that you I turned to look again, and you were gone gone of your own will, or another, was it you shadow on a wall, face in a mirror, Images of sorrow was it you, that turned away or me, not wanting to see or be seen

Images of sorrow, pictures of delight
Things that go to make up a life
Endless days of summer longer nights of gloom
Waiting for the morning light
Scenes of unimportance, photos in a frame
Things that go to make up a life

Help us someone, let us out of here
Cos living here so long undisturbed
Dreaming of the time we were free
So many years ago
Before the time when we first heard
Welcome to the home by the sea

& Jorma & Jack, & Jeffereson Airplane, & HOT TUNA !!

Ok, so I am showing my age a bit,,,

Jorma Kaukonen was part of Jefferson Airplane,, before they became the Starship,,,,

The Airplane was Jorma , Jack Cassidy (joined the Band after the 1st Album), Marty Balin, Paul Kantner Signe Anderson, Skip Spence, Spencer Dryden (also drummed with the New Riders of the Purple sage) & Grace Slick ( also joined the Band after the 1st Album) ,,,,

Many of the members were with , and played with other bands,,, After the Starship Kantner Balin, Cassidy formed KBC and were very good together,,, They played the Chance here in Pok and that was an outstanding show,,,

I have seen Hot Tuna several times, and they are always very good,,,, Jorma can still play like no one else,,,, check him out at the Bardavon in early Februrary or a spot near your town,,,,, you will not be disappointed,,,,

Anyway,,, there is no lack of Music from this band,,, from Grace Slick and the Great Society,,, to Hot Tuna,,, and KBC,,, and on and on,,,,, They are all members of Rock and Roll HOF ,,, inducted in 1996,,,,

I will digress for a moment,,, when I listen to these type of Bands , & I think that their music has lasted for over 40 years,,, and you can think of other musicians of that era who's Songs, and music endured for 3 or 4 decades,,, SO , who today is going to be today's Clapton, Kaukonen, Townsend, Waters, Gilmore, Zappa, etc...the list goes on, and on, and on,,,,, What Music will be downloaded to my Grandchildren's Ipods, or what ever device that will be. John Mayer,,, ... Maybe,,,,, Dave Matthews Band - certainly,,,U2 ?? of course . Others?? I'd like to hear who you all think is going to pass the test of Musical time, and bridge the
generations ??? For Now,.... Let's enjoy some OLDIES,,,, at least they are oldies where I come from.... and I bet that 50 years from now ,, Jorma's guitar work on E. J. will be listened to by me, My children, and their children.................

Thursday Songs

I am in the mood for some of the Female singers that I really like ,,, that you may or may not have heard of,,,,, I am reminded that the Grammy awards are coming up.. and we need to remember that there are many many many artists out there that will never win or even be nominated for a Grammy,,, Those awards are for just whatever is mainstream music,,, now... I do not begrudge them their fame,,,, Just as long as you and I remember that Artists like Sinead Lohan, and Jonatha Brooke, and Joan Armatrading (she actually was nominated) have more talent in one hand than some of these GRAMMY WINNERS have in their whole body !

SO,,, let's enjoy a few from Sinead,,, I will leave you to go pick up or download her No Mermaid CD,,,,,

Whatever it takes

No mermaid,,,,

And I will end with Jonatha Brooke,,, and Nothing Sacred...

Circle of Life

SO, If Marathoning is Life,,, then Disney Marathoning is the Circle of Life,,

The Start of the Marathon is amazing,,, from the pickup at the Wilderness Lodge at 3:45 AM,,,, you are taken to the Parking lot at EPCOT,,, and then need to walk back towards the Staging area,,, we drop off the bags with clothes, etc for after the race at the baggage tents,,, get in line for the porto-potties,,, that taken care of,,,, about 15.000 folks start to move down a back stage road,,, and then to our Start corrals,,, Mickey , Minnie, Donald, and Goofy are on stage,,,Music playing,,, we sing the National Anthem,,, and then the fireworks go off,, huge flame of fire shoot into the dark,,, and we are off,,,,, not able to run for about 1/2 mile or more,,,,, its warm , even for near 6am,,, and the road is well lite,,, there are thousands of runners,, the scene is amazing !!!!!!!! as we loop around EPCOT,,, I am taking inventory,,, feet,,, legs,,, arms,,,, I actually feel ok,,,,,

Then off to mile 5 ,,,, and then World Drive,,, and we are headed toward the Magic Kingdom,, there are many water stops,,, and Power aide,,,, tons of folks along the road ways as we move to mile 6 and 7,,,, I am thinking take my time,,, I can get to mile 13 ,,,, and I don't care about the Pace,.... the closer we get to the MK the more people. - I see Ryan and Nancy just after mile 9,,,,,They say that Annette is about 6 minutes ahead of me,, we go past the Contemporary ,,,into the MK,,, and Right up Main Street USA !! WOW ,,,,, we go around the back of the castle,,, and thru Cinderella's castle,, make a right and out the back of the park near Splash Mt..

Mile 11,,12,,, 13 and we past the 1/2 way point - and I am still ok,,, I have taken water and Poweraide at every stop,,, and now that the sun is well up its starting to get warmer,,,,, I take the 1/2 of Vicadin that I was saving,,,, my leg feels OK,,, But I feel that I cannot push it,,,, Miles 11 - 15 are sorta barren,,,, there are a characters at some spots,,, and a DJ or two, I am thinking that OK,,, I made 13 ,, now lets do the 5 to mile 18,,, We get thru the 16th,,, and the Animal Kingdom,,,, and then I am looking to mile 18,,, it has been a harder 5 miles,,, the 1st 13 seemed to go quicker than this 5,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ok,,, so now 5 more,,,, and then it will be 23 !!

Ugh,, as we get to mile 20,,, I notice that - even at this death pace - I am passing those who are walking,, now at 20 there is short out and back loop so you see folks going the other way right across the double yellow lines,,,, we enter the Hollywood studios ,,,, OMG ,,,I might finish,,,, there is chocolate here and I take 3 of the Small bars,,,, I should say that along the way there has been bannas, Poweraide,,, and most of all ,,, my new Best friend, BIOFREEZE,,,, I have been rubbing that on my legs from about mile 15,,,,, and no cramps,,, yet,,,, ok,, we are in the Studios, and I have missed the last mile marks,,, I ask a woman near me if she saw mile 22 ,,, she says we are headed toward 24 !! what good news,,,,,, Down the path from Hollywood studios toward the BOARDWALK resort,,, and then across the small bridge to the Yacht and Beach Club.... right before the bridge ,, I stop to get some Bio Freeze,,, and as I put my leg up on a chair the whole leg cramps !!! boom ,,I pullit off the chair,,, the folks ask if I am ok,, and I say forget the BIO Freeze,,,,,and I just move on,,,, down the walkway past the Y and B clubs,,, thru the International Gateway INTO or BACK into EPCOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! around the World showcase past England,,, France, Morocco,,, Japan, the USA,,,,,,,,,,,, Germany, Italy, Norway, Mexico,,, right at the Main sidewalk, and the huge GEOsphere,, SpaceShip earth is right in front of us,,,,,, down that walkway,,, right out thru a service exit,,, and MILE 26 !! I High-five Chip and Dale,,, and can see the Finish ..........................

Then ,,, its over,,,,, I go past Pinocchio,,, Stitch,,, and get my thermo-blanket,,, and they Place that Medal over my head,,,,, a bit emotional,,,, get a water, and my photo taken,,,, I find my bag in the tent,,, and look for Nancy, Ryan, and Annette,,,, I find them near the H Tent !!

The WORST of ,,,,,,,,,, The BEST of.............

Disney Marathon 2009 was my 5th Marathon,,, 2 New Yorks, a Dutchess County,,, an Ocean Drive Marathon (Cape May to Sea Isle City , NJ) and now Disney world. the finish time of 5:57 was my worst time by an hour ! The 13:37 minutes per mile is barely a running time,,, that said ,, this was the most fun,, by a long shot that I even had in a Marathon. Annette running her 1st marathon - well ahead of me - was a big part of the added fun, Disney of course is another big part,,, Giving high-fives to Chip and Dale as you finish was great,,,,,,,,,,,,, I'll include a review of the whole experience later,,,, any way,,,WE are ready for the GOOFY Challenge next year,,,, that's a 1/2 Marathon on Saturday,, then the full Marathon on Sunday !!
