Taken a turn

As we approach the end of the year , and think about gathering together with families,, and friends to celebrate the holidays, it's easy to lose sight that there are those - and too many of those - in the community that need a hand,,, And I am not talking about the Cheats that get Food stamps that should not,, or that person in the food line that buys their food with a WIC check, and then the Cigarettes, and beer with a $100 bill.... I mean the REAL people in our communities that DO NOT have food for Thanksgiving,,, or Gifts for their children on Christmas Morning,

And I'm not pumpin us up or looking for ANY recognition,,,, As I really believe that the True Charitable act,, or Volunteer effort is done in anonymity,,,

Someone told me a story last week about helping a friend of theirs deliver 50 meals to a homeless shelter in town,,,, and they were astonished that there were 50 men and women,,, that the agency picked up off the street or woods , or near railroad tracks,,, (I do not know where 50 human beings live when they have no where to live) they drive 'em back to a shelter and serve them a hot meal... 50 people,,, and I bet that's not all of them,,, I guarantee that there are others that do not come, out of embarrassment of their situation or whatever,,,,,

Where the hell am I going with this,,,, Work with your church,, or if you don't have church,, stop and ask at one,, I bet that there are families that need your help with a Turkey and fixing for Thanksgiving, and a list of Things that their children want for the Holiday..... and in Our experience although some ask for toys, and games,,, Most ask for FOOD and CLOTHES !

FOOD and CLOTHES for Christ Sakes !

I won't go onto the Harry Chapin line about ,,,ok so we give 'em food for Thanksgiving,,,, exactly what are they eating the day AFTER Thanksgiving, and the week after that,,,while most of us are worried about what time the Mall opens for the BLACK FRIDAY SALES,,,,,,,

SO - Donate something,,, Volunteer somewhere, Help out SOMEONE this year,,,, while we are Bitchin that we can't afford the "This" and the "That" think about those who need your help .... and to quote a line,,,,

"You have to do something. You have to take a chance and get involved. There are people that don't have enough to eat and who are cold. You can go and greet these people. Take an old blanket out to them or make a sandwich and say, "Here." "I get it NOW " and

"For a couple of hours out of the whole year..." GO be "the people that we always hoped we would be!"
