Greeting from the 4th of July !!! Happy 78th Birthday to George Steinbrenner ! and a note on the "Iron Horse"

Ok,, so the Best line that refers to the 4th of July has to be from the Movie JAWS,,,,, when the Mayor is discussing the situation with Chief Brody

Mayer Vaughn: Martin. A summer girl goes swimming. Swims out a little far. She tires. A fishing boat comes along...

Towns man ..Meadows: It's happened before.

Mayor Vaughn: I don't think you appreciate the gut reaction people have to these things.

Martin Brody : "Harry, I appreciate it. I'm just reacting to what I was told!

Vaughn: Martin, i-it's all psychological. You yell `Barracuda!', everybody
says `huh, what?'. You yell `Shark!' and we've got a panic on our hands on
the FOURTH OF JULY....

July 4th 1939 - Lou Gehrig Day,,, and the Famous "luckiest man" Speech,,, as Gehrig stood there Knowing he was dying,,,, Henry Louis "Lou" Gehrig (June 19, 1903 – June 2, 1941

His baseball career ended May 2nd 1939 when Gehrig approached McCarthy before a game in Detroit against the Tigers and said, "I'm benching myself, Joe", telling the Yankees' skipper that he was doing so "for the good of the team". McCarthy acquiesced and put Ellsworth "Babe" Dahlgren in at first base, and also said that whenever Gehrig wanted to play again, the position was his. Gehrig himself took the lineup card out to the shocked umpires before the game, ending the 14-year stamina streak. Before the game began, the Briggs Stadium announcer told the fans, "Ladies and gentlemen, this is the first time Lou Gehrig's name will not appear on the Yankee lineup in 2,130 consecutive games." The Detroit Tigers fans gave Gehrig a standing ovation while he sat on the bench with tears in his eyes. Gehrig stayed with the Yankees as team captain for a few more weeks, but he never played baseball again. -

His number 4 was the FIRST the Yankees retired,,,He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1939..
