Life in the Fartlek lane

So,,, welcome to Friday,,, or at least its Friday for most of the world,, working an rotating schedule or something that includes weekends,, leads one to not have an exact Friday,,, however that ususally means that there are days off during the week, which IMHO are Better than weekend days !!


In life like running there are time to go fast and times to go slow,,, The Fartlek pace is simply going faster for a short burst, then slowing down to recover,,, then faster again,.. you repeat this many times so that you can then go faster for a longer period and recover quicker,,, hummm sounds like Life,,, you get goin real fast,,, and then need to slow down to recover! Cause "Life in the fast lane.... surely make you lose your mind,,,"

Derived from the Swedish term that means ‘Speed Play’, fartlek can provide an excellent endurance and strength session, as well as help improve your speed and race awareness. Fart=speed and lek=play

The use of 'fartlek' came about to provide a less structured approach to that of interval training. Its origins and use were developed in the 1930's. Whereas, in interval training the structure prescribes a given distance run in a given time with a given rest, fartlek's approach is to have you run at a given time, 2 minutes for example over undulating terrain or flat wherever your run may take you. The effort prescribed can be at 10k race pace to whatever speed you wish to make your effort. The rest in-between is normally at an easy pace to allow recovery before the next effort.

so,, on the way to Oneonta via route 28 ,, there are many ,, count that as greater than 8 and less than 15 ,roadside memorials to a Person or Persons that lost their life at that location,,, they range from a small simple cross to Crosses with Flowers, flags, and the persons names written or painted on them,,, some have beads, and other personal items. Now , thank God,, I have never and will never get to experience what that is like,,, but let me ask ,,, is the reason folks are drawn to that , because that is where their loved one was last alive,,,??? or That is where they passed?? The Hoban Family ,, via the 3 children picked up their 4th College Degree yesterday at Kimberly's graduation from SUNY Oneonta... !! Amazing from 2 parent who collectively have ZERO degrees and Barely several college credits to their names..... Now , she moves back today,, and we will see from there - huh ....

Big Brown won the Preakness ,,, now onto the Belmont.... ahhhh a not so easy mile and a HALF !! that has claimed many a horse's dream of the Triple.... We will get to see the greatest race of this or any other time,,, when Secretariat won by - how many lengths was that ,, and the great shot of Ron Turcotte turning around to see where the hell everyone else went..

On June 9, 1973, almost 100,000 people came to Belmont Park near NewYork City to see if "Big Red" would become the first horse in 25 years to win the Triple Crown. Secretariat gave the finest performance ofhis career in the Belmont Stakes, completing the 1.5-mile race in a record 2 minutes and 24 seconds, knocking nearly three seconds off the track record set by Gallant Man in 1957. He also won by a record 31lengths. Ron Turcotte, who jockeyed Secretariat in all but three of his races, claimed that at Belmont he lost control of Secretariat and that the horse sprinted into history on his own accord.

May 14th - Same old Same OLD

Whoa,, so what to say about today,,, some personal happenings, that we will not be discussing here,,, simple to say that a portion of things that were are not anymore,,,, get it >?>> no,, GOOD..

Yankees suck,............. can't score a run,,, actually did score one in two games,,, that ain't gonna get it done..

Spring is movin forward, a bit nicer weather,,,, running is going ok,,, a bit of pain in my right knee,,,, bit I am running thru that, and overall feel like progress is being made,,,, You certainlly realize that you are 52 when you try to run 5-7 miles everyday !! The body has it's own way of communicating its issues and giving you immediate feedback on what the Hell HURTS !!!

Big weekend coming up and more on that topic later,,,, so I need to get to work,,,
