Gettysburg

Tomorrow - November 19, is the anniversary of the Gettysburg address...
These 269 words are perhaps, the greatest speech in our nation's history from, perhaps our greatest President.
Given the current situation in our country - I hope that the last sentence in Mr Lincoln's speech remains true...

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war.
We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that this nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate, we can not consecrate, we can not hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here,
have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here.
It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.
It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause
for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—
That this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—
and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
Lincoln felt he had failed the people with his short address, and yet, those 269 words were spoken and all speeches…

Wow - 2 in a week

Greetings and Salutations ..

and let me start by saying this - and I am in no way minimizing the loss of the people that are shot in this country every day,,, or in every one of these incidences involving multiple fatalities....  but f'ing A  - we may as well as say "our thoughts and prayers go out to all those killed and injured by _______ "
you fill in the bank with the location and the number killed and wounded,,,  Leave the damn flag at half mast - cosue it takes longer toraise and re lower it for the next shooting takes place.

We had better find a way to have a serious discussion on how to control the firearms in this country without having to hear the NRA and the 2nd amendment supporters saying that it infringes on their right to bear arms and that these are not GUN incidents - they are people incidents. I will tell you what they are  - are  DEAD people incidents and they will continue to happen with greater intensity and impact if we don't do something about it..

Hey - Norrie will once agin be left in a few capable hands on Thursday,,,  but only for 1/2 day or so,,, hey maybe I can fit in a bike ride - spose to be near 50 - Eddie - give me a call in that morning and  I will see if I can meet you guys ,,,,

Did I say Aaron Judge unanimously won the AL Rookie of the Year  !!

Well well well,, it's freaking mid November - when the hell did this happen, ?!?!

I've been working near every day getting the Marina closed up and in shape for the Winter - that is coming,,,,,   Floating dock support pipes removed (ugh - I go the the mud end of most of those - of course I'm the FNG ) Electrical shut off and about 1/2 ton of wire pulled back to shore and coiled up - never knew that wire could be so heavy, 80 some Ice eaters installed,  finger docks removed and stacked in the parking lot, Comfort station winterized, long sailboat docks pulled into middle of Marina, etc etc,,,  maybe 1 days work left to do... then I get laid off for the 1st time in my life !!  Oh - and I nearly fell into the river only 2 or 3 times ,,, and yes in years past others have gone in  - so leave your cell phone and wallet in the car ! 

The winter  - I hope  - will be a series of small jobs, painting the inside of a customers home, and , and siding on another  are all lined up ,,, and for me maybe a popcorn ceiling or two will be removed  ....  and I am just starting to work with my router on making "name"signs,,,, its not as hard as I though and with some patience (yea - gotta work on that) they come out pretty good,,,, I'll post some pictures here as I get a few completed,,,,  I am  hoping for at  a cold winter and some snow,,,    I get better photo opportunities with the Eagles when the reservoir and river freeze - plus Id like to see that all the work at Norrie paid off -

Moving on,,, Aaron Judge was unanimously chosen as American League rookie of the year.  Very well deserved and we can only hope he is anywhere near the last ROY that the Yankees had (Derek Jeter)  - and maybe in a few years named Captain or co Captain (with Sanchez)   as Mr Jeter was ,,,,

Who will be the new Yankee Manager ??  - I gotta tell ya , none of the name I have been hearing thrill me,,,  I'd like Tony Perez,,, or  perhaps Robbie Thompson - But David Cone ,,   Aaron Boone  ??  if we need a home-run off Wakefield to win a game - but who knows he might be ok.  Guess I am waiting see with everyone else,,, I think this is like Torree in the mid nineties,,, he took over a great team after Buck Showalter  - and went on that great run winning World Series,, I think the next yankee manager will have a similar opportunity - he is taking over a really good team,,,

the POTUS is still a JACK ASS - the ties to Russia are more exposed every day, His lack of leadership more apparent with every turn.  He tells everyone he ask Putin about Meddling in our election and of course the Russian leader denies it and Rump Believes him - believes him over the evidence that is brought by the USA's own intelligence agencies,,, What a Dick head ! what a slap in the face to his own country.

Hey - start thinking about candidates for Song of the year, and Album of the year...  I will lay out a few possibilities in the next few weeks and see if you agree. I have alse been thinking about what the best Live show  saw this year, - its really a hard choice ,,,, Amos Lee ??  Jorma  ? Tedeschi Trucks Band ??
